At the Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony on Friday, Blake Shelton As the host of “The Voice”, he was both celebrated and embarrassed by three guest speakers who have played an important role in his life over the past dozen years. Carson Daley Roasted him, his wife gwen Stefani waxed lover (still) and former judge friend Adam Levine Split the difference.
Shelton did not shy away from his own funny comments. As an up-and-coming singer from Oklahoma, she talked about getting a star on the Walk of Fame is not her primary career goal. “Never on my radar,” she told the crowd gathered on Hollywood Blvd. “I had a dream of becoming a country singer and one day listening to myself on the radio, and I never, ever thought that this road would take me here.
The singer especially thanked his manager. “If there’s one person I have to thank, career-wise, probably more than anyone else, Narvel Blackstock has literally changed my life. He asked me to take off my cowboy hat. I mean, my God… and cut my mullet. You’re actually a total jerk for this, because that’s awesome again. I can’t go back now.”
Levine, the lead singer of Maroon 5, started his speech with a competition note.
“Blake spoke at my star initiation ceremony six years ago,” the singer said. “Six years ago, so I bought it that many years ago, so I bought it six years before you.” I noticed that Shelton was named the People’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2017, whereas Levine took the title in 2013, “four years before he got it.” I did everything you did before you. You know, when I got here I was really conflicted about what to say and whether I was going to make jokes and be rude and be a jerk…”
“It’s clear which path you took,” Shelton interrupted.
“…and then just before I came in, I said, you know, I’ll be sincere. I will be kind because I love you. And by the way, I know I made a lot of mean jokes, so I screwed up that philosophy. But I’m honest with God, and it makes me sick to tell you. I’m really proud of you man and I love you. … it’s no joke. No jokes. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen you and I love you and I’m proud of you. Although you’re stupid in so many ways, I love you and I’m happy to be here, and it’s an honor to be here for you.”
Levine added, “There’s one more thing I want to say before I go, and I know Blake agrees: It’s time to give Carson Daley a star on the subject. Carson has been on our TV for 30,000 years, and we take it for granted almost every day. Let’s go – Carson Daley is the star of the walk to fame, next year or after.
Meanwhile, Daly was free to use his more disrespectful side, taking his cues from the Friars Club.
“There was too much roasting and too little roasting. We’ll see if we can change that,” Daly began. In fact, once he leaves, you can probably dig it up and gift it back to Blake Lively.
“Blake is not a Hollywood man. He missed home so much while filming ‘The Voice’ once that I had to take him to a Bass Pro store in Riverside to stop his crying. I left him there for two weeks and he was happy.”
After joining “The Voice” for its first season in 2010, Daly said, “Blake would somehow go on to become the biggest and oddly enough single-star debut from ‘The Voice’. … She was going to meet a co-star she was going to marry: Cee-Lo Green… It was hard for most of us to believe that Blake was dating Gwen. He was the head of a ska band in Orange County. Blake wrote a song called ‘Hillbilly Bone’. Gwen couldn’t resist this villager’s bone, and the rest is history. We’re not done.
“I had the honor of marrying Blake and Gwen on their beautiful farm in Oklahoma in a private ceremony. There was a beautiful view. Gwen was adorned with Vera Wang. Blake was dressed in jeans and a rifle. It gave new meaning to the term pump-up wedding… Some fun facts about Blake: He has 28 #1 hits. Seventeen of them are about a dead dog. Blake is the son of a used car salesman and owner of a beauty salon, which explains why he loves cars and makeup. In 2017, Blake was named People Magazine’s Sexiest Men Alive, and in 2018, he was named Ebony Magazine’s Whitest Man Alive the very next year. Blake is not only a TV star, but also a movie star. He played Earl’s Voice in ‘Angry Birds’, for which he was nominated for nine Academy Awards.
Stefani turned the roast dial to zero for her part.
“Let me try to paint a picture of Blake Shelton, the little boy who grew up in a tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny town in Oklahoma, with a simple life and a big dream.” “The background of his life was nature. He was in the woods all day, not wanting to come home until dark. Knowing every tree, every name of every animal species, that has soul ties to country music, and what country music stands for there. There is no one more sincere than this man. Country music lives and breathes. He’s a country music jukebox and that’s his DNA. He was born to do this and did nothing because he wanted to be a star. She’s always been a star from barely graduating from high school to lofts, and then at 17 she moved alone to Nashville to pursue the one thing she wanted to do in her life, be a country singer.
With 28 #1 singles and 23 seasons on ‘The Voice’, Blake has always stayed true to himself. There is no one like him. … He is humble, sincere, and trust me, wherever we go, everyone feels like they know Blake Shelton.”
Shelton gave herself a moment of emotion, finally expressing her love for Stefani and remembering her deceased brother.
“When I married Gwen, I stopped checking things off my list of great achievements in life, and so that’s just the icing on the cake. It’s the greatest thing that’s happened to me along this journey.
“By the way, my family is all here from Oklahoma, and I was talking to my mom this morning, and I was thinking what to say when I got here. And she said to me, ‘I wish Richie could be here and see all this and everything you’ve done.’ And I feel like it’s probably the best way to end this. Richie was the brother I lost years ago. That’s why I dedicate my star on this Walk of Fame to my brother Richie.”
