blur The band announced Thursday morning that they will be releasing their first album in eight years, “The Ballad of Darren,” this summer. The news came with an early taste of the 10-track collection, a guitar-focused single called “The Narcissist”.
Released on Parlophone on July 21, the album follows their last reunion album, 2015’s “The Magic Whip,” and was produced by James Ford, who most recently worked with Blur’s Damon Albarn on Gorillaz’s 2018 album “The Now Now”. undertakes. ”
“This is an aftershock recording, a reflection and commentary on where we find ourselves now,” Albarn said in a statement. Lead guitarist Graham Coxon added: “As we get older and crazier, it becomes more important that what we’re playing is loaded with the right emotion and intent. Sometimes just a riff doesn’t do the job.
“For any long-term relationship to last in a meaningful way, you have to be able to surprise each other in some way, and somehow we all continue to do that,” said bassist Alex James.
The record came as a surprise to many members of the Brit-pop band, and even Ford had previously commented on the new Blur music after the band announced they would be reuniting for the two lead roles at Wembley Stadium in July.
The band is also gearing up to play this year’s Primavera Sound and will be performing a series of concerts in Europe during the summer, with their first stop being a homecoming show at the Colchester Arts Center on May 19.
