Ivor Novello Awards 2023 Winners List: Wet Leg, Raye, Harry Styles

wet legRhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers took home the game. Ivor Novello Awarded in the category of coveted songwriter of the year at the 2023 ceremony held at Grosvenor House in London on Thursday. The event honored 30 music producers in 14 categories for songwriting and script composition.

Wet Leg’s self-titled debut album was one of the most talked about albums of the past year, earning indie rockers their first Brit awards and a double Grammy. Ivor judges described Teasdale and Chambers’ writing as “fresh, unapologetic, and direct, with surprising melodies that demand attention,” in reference to the singles “Wet Dream” and “Chaise Lounge”.

The award for best contemporary song went to the groundbreaking artist’s “Escapism” rail and 070 Shake with co-writer and producer Mike Sabath. The jury described the track, which became Raye’s first #1 single in the UK, as “dare, daring and empowering songwriting”.

Plus, for the first time in several years, audiences were greeted with a series of live performances, including Raye, who gave an ethereal performance of the award-winning dance-rap single.

Sting also sang a rendition of “Message In A Bottle”, while Matilda Mann honored Blondie’s Debbie Harry and International Special Award winner Chris Stein with their cover of the 1978 new wave classic “Heart of Glass.”

Previous Ivor winners harry styles, Kid Harpoon and Tyler Johnson took home the award for most performed work for radio favorite “As It Was.” This is the third win of the trio. hit makersIn 2021, he won Styles’ “Adore You” award and the songwriter of the year award in the same category. starring her winning friends Styles and Florence Pugh.

Other highlights on the list of winners include Florence Welch and Jack Antonoff, who won best song musically and lyrically for “King,” and Charli XCX, who won the visionary award for her skills at the intersection of music, songwriting, and visuals. See the full list of winners below.
