The 2023 edition of the documentary showcase festival will conclude with the presentation of the documentary produced by O’Connor, Miri Navasky and Maeve O’Boyle at Regal UA East Hampton Cinema on Saturday, July 22 at 7:00 PM. After the movie, Baez and O’Connor will join musician and artist Laurie Anderson for an intimate conversation.
According to the announcement, The Doctor “follows the legendary singer and activist as she faces the end of her 60-year music career and takes an honest and deep look back as she tries to make sense of her great life that made history. . . In doing so, he reveals for the first time his personal struggles, which he has kept secret until now.
“Neither a traditional biography nor a traditional concert film,” he continues, “this gripping documentary travels back and forth in time as you follow Joan on her final tour and explore her extraordinary archive, including newly discovered home movies, diaries, artworks. . therapy tapes and audio recordings. Throughout the film, Baez is remarkably revealing about her life on and off stage, from her lifelong emotional struggles to civil rights work with Martin Luther King to a heartbreaking romance with young Bob Dylan.
