The 10 Best Super Bowl Halftime Shows Of All Time

Most people never realized how badly they wanted to hear Prince backed by a marching band until the Super Bowl in 2007. The Miami Dolphins stadium was surrounded by storm clouds, but that didn’t stop Prince from going up onto his symbol-soaked stage and signal his intent by opening with the riff from Queen’s We Will Rock You.

As Prince raged into Let’s Go Crazy and Baby I’m A Star, the Florida A&M University Marching 100 provided a proper backing band. Prince then ditched his own catalog in favor of a trio of songs by other artists: Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Proud Mary, Bob Dylan’s All Along The Watchtower, and updated proceedings with Foo Fighters’ Best Of Me.

The ending, however, couldn’t have been better timed. The heavens opened as Prince closed out proceedings with none other than Purple Rain. Shakira and Jennifer Lopez are unlikely to be able to top Mother Nature as a side dish.
